ANNOUNCEMENT OF COMPETITION

ACA GRANTS IN BIODIVERSITY

The Alberta Cooperative Conservation Research Unit, announces a call for proposals in the fifteenth competition for ACA Grants in Biodiversity

The Alberta Conservation Association sponsors this program by providing up to $200,000 annually to help increase the knowledge of flora and fauna in Alberta. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are invited to submit applications for up to $20,000 in support of field and research expenses. The grants will have a one time payment and are for 2 years, beginning April 1, 2010.

Proposals for research in any area of interest relative to biodiversity will be considered, but studies must be done in Alberta. Information and application forms can be found on this website. Proposals must be received no later than December 1, 2009, and awards will be announced in late March/early April 2010.

ACA funds support two granting programs:

•  ACA Grants in Biodiversity for graduate student research

•  The ACA Grant Eligible Conservation Program, open to all Albertans.

Grant administrators work closely together to prevent duplication or overlap of funds going into a single project. This is in keeping with a philosophy of spreading support fairly across conservation and research efforts.

Students who have received any prior funding from ACA, or whose supervisors have received funding for any part of the proposed project, are not eligible to apply. Previous grant recipients may only apply again if they are: (a) in a new degree program, and (b) the research project is totally separate from what was ACA funded in the past.

Once an application for funding support has been submitted to the ACA Grants in Biodiversity program, the project will NOT be eligible for consideration in the ACA Grant Eligible-Conservation Fund.
